The HACCP system in Ukraine was introduced only by 362 enterprises

The State Service of Ukraine for Food Safety and Consumer Protection told about the number of enterprises that are ready to work in the HACCP system in Ukraine.

If we talk about the quality of food products, it is worth remembering the situation with the introduction by operators of the food market at their enterprises of the system of hazard analysis and control at critical points, or HACCP. It is a system that identifies, evaluates and monitors the hazards that are critical to food safety. Its implementation is stipulated in the same Law "On Basic Principles and Requirements for Safety and Quality of Food Products". Article 21 states:

"With a view to the gradual transition by producers to the use of HACCP procedures, the above-mentioned Law defines a transitional period for their implementation, namely:

  • the facilities carrying out activities with food products, which contain raw ingredients of animal origin (except for small capacities), - three years from the day following the day of publication of this Law (2017) - meat, fish, milk processing facilities;
  • facilities carrying out activities with food products that do not contain raw ingredients of animal origin (except for small capacities), - four years from the day following the day of publication of this Law (2018) ready-made foods;
  • small facilities- in five years from the day following the day of publication of this law (2019)".

As we see, this year, namely, until September 20, most processing enterprises should already work on this system.

We applied for a comment to the State Service of Ukraine for Food Safety and Consumer Protection, which is entrusted with monitoring the implementation of these provisions of the law to find out the normal implementation process. The press service provided us with the following information:

Today, the HACCP system has been installed on 362 facilities operating in the territory of Ukraine with food products, which contain raw ingredients of animal origin (except for small facilities) and 867 facilities to implement the HACCP system in 2017. The collection of statistical data on the implementation of the HACCP system was introduced every six months starting from 2018."
