Filling of the domestic market for milk as raw material has decreased by 11% since the beginning of the year

Over 2 months of 2018 1162 thousand tons of milk were produced by all categories of farms, which is 0.9% less than in the corresponding period of the previous year. This was reported by the press service of the Economic Discussion Club.

At the same time in agricultural enterprises milk production grew by 3.6%, while in households, that provided more than 60% of milk yields, it decreased by 3.4%.

Since the beginning of the year there has been an increase in the volume of foreign trade in dairy products. In January-February of this year, in comparison with the previous year, exports of dairy products increased 2.5 times and amounted to 148 thousand tons, imports increased 1.7 times to 26 thousand tons.

The main commodity position of the Ukrainian dairy export is butter (84% of the total volume), whose active buyers are Turkey, Morocco, South Africa.

In terms of imports of dairy products the largest share belongs to cheeses (more than 70%), which come to the domestic market mainly from EU countries (Poland, Germany, France).

According to balance calculations, in January-February of this year, compared to the same period in 2017, the filling of the domestic market for milk as raw material decreased by 11%, and the estimated per capita consumption of dairy products by the population decreased by 2.6 kg, and an average of 21.7 kg per person.
