In Ukraine, last year, the affected by ASF (African swine fever) farmers were paid about 5.8 million UAH compensation. However, another 9.6 million UAH have not been paid yet. This in response to the request was reported by the State Service of Ukraine for Food Safety and Consumer Protection.

In Ukraine, last year, the affected by ASF (African swine fever) farmers were paid about 5.8 million UAH compensation. However, another 9.6 million UAH have not been paid yet. This in response to the request was reported by the State Service of Ukraine for Food Safety and Consumer Protection.

It is noted that as a result of ASF last year, 35.6 thousand pigs were killed. Losses of Ukrainian farmers were estimated at 15.4 million UAH, of which the state paid only 37% - 5.8 million UAH.

From the beginning of 2018 in Ukraine because of ASF, 2.8 thousand pigs were exterminated. As of now, Ukrainian farmers have not received a single monetary compensation yet.
The agency explained that the payment of compensation for the killed pigs due to the ASF is carried out from local budgets.

"Local governments are responsible for this," sums up the State Service of Ukraine for Food Safety and Consumer Protection.

It bears reminding that the population of pigs is rapidly decreasing due to the ASF in Ukraine. At the same time, FAO stated that it is impossible to find out the extent of the spread of the African plague because of the limited potential of official Ukrainian veterinary services to quickly identify and confirm the diseases.

This year, the Cabinet of Ministers has allocated hundreds of millions to fight against ASF. And this despite the fact that in previous years the  State Service of Ukraine for Food Safety and Consumer Protection very inefficiently used budgetary funds. According to the People's Deputy Trihubenko, the department spent more than 3 million UAH during 2016-2017, which is inexpedient.
