The European Parliament will consider the possibility of granting EUR1 billion to Ukraine within the framework of the EU macro-financial assistance, but it would like to see the progress of the Ukrainian state, in particular in the fight against corruption, judicial reform, the adoption of the Electoral Code, the head of the delegation of the European Parliament Committee on Foreign Affairs Lyme Andrikene said, according to Interfax-Ukraine.

"The European Parliament will now consider the proposal of the European Commission to provide additional EUR1 billion as part of our macro-financial assistance to Ukraine," - Lyme Andrikiene said at a news conference with the delegation of the European Parliament's foreign affairs committee during her visit to Ukraine to assess the progress of reforms and the application of EU financial assistance on Friday in Kyiv.

According to her, the most important area in which the EU expects progress from Ukraine is the fight against corruption. "In this sphere, the creation of the Anti-Corruption Court, which would meet the recommendations of the Venice Commission, is a priority for us ... Fighting corruption is the way to opening doors for foreign investors who need a reliable business environment," Lyme Andrikiene noted.

She also stressed the need to abolish e-declaration for civil society activists and to make progress in judicial reform.

The MEP also recalled the need to adopt the Electoral Code. "Legislation for all types of elections in Ukraine should be harmonized, and this must be done at least one year before the next elections, we believe that if in the autumn the parliament could adopt the draft electoral code, this would be a step in the right direction," - she noted.

Lyme Andrikiene expressed concern about the bill number 7206 "Buy Ukrainian, pay Ukrainians", which, if adopted, would be contrary to the provisions of the Free Trade Zone under the Agreement on the Association of Ukraine with the EU.
