The European Union has adopted legislation that prohibits companies from supplying goods of "double quality" to the common European market. This is reported by EurActiv.

Legislative changes are the response of the EU to the demands of Central and Eastern Europe.

"We will intensify the fight against the" double standards "of quality products. We have already amended the Directive on unfair commercial practices, thereby prohibiting companies from supplying goods of double quality to the EU markets. This will give the national authority to control the issue at the legislative level. As Mr. Juncker said last September, citizens of the second class cannot be in the EU," European Commissioner for Justice, Consumer Rights and Gender Equality Vira Yurova said.

The question of the composition and quality of the same products worries Eastern Europe for more than a year. The latest cases of food fraud in the EU were associated with the falsification of olive oil, wine, honey, fish, dairy products and poultry.

In Ukraine, meanwhile, according to experts, almost every second product is falsified.

According to a recent examination, for example, 75% of cheese does not meet the norms and quality standards: experts have found palm oil instead of animal fats.

No better situation with butter. According to the Public Information Agency "Public Control of Consumer Rights Protection", 74% of this product is falsified in the consumer market of the country.

Previously, the critical situation with the quality of products and goods in Ukraine was publicly recognized in the State Service of Ukraine for Food Safety and Consumer Protection. In parallel, the service recorded a record number of food poisoning among Ukrainians (during 2017).
