On September 13, the Cabinet of Ministers adopted a resolution that amends certain legislative acts of Ukraine to harmonize them with the Law on Standardization, which the Verkhovna Rada adopted on February, 2016.

This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Economic Development.
The provisions of the Law establish the voluntariness of the application of national standards, abolish the need to harmonize draft national standards with state bodies, abolish industry standardization.

Voluntary application of the standards meets the requirements of the Agreement on Technical Barriers to Trade of the World Trade Organization, as well as the European principles of standardization. In European practice, references to certain standards in legislative acts, in particular in EU directives, are isolated cases. The adopted resolution is aimed at bringing Ukrainian legislation into compliance with the Law "On Standardization".

According to the document, provisions should be excluded from legislative acts on: the mandatory application of national standards; harmonization of draft national standards with government bodies; normative and legal regulation of relations related to the development of standards and technical conditions of enterprises, institutions and organizations; supervision of compliance with standards and penalties for non-compliance with standards.
It is noted that the adoption of the resolution will allow to eliminate inconsistencies in certain norms of certain legislative acts and will help bring the national standardization system in line with international and European norms and rules.
