The Bulgarian authorities reported the first outbreak of African swine fever in the country on a farm near the border with Romania, pigua.info reported.

According to the Bulgarian Agency for Food Safety, seven animals became infected on a farm in the village of Tutrakanzi in the north-east of Bulgaria. Laboratory studies confirmed the presence of the ASF virus, Euronews reported.

According to the order of local authorities, all 23 pigs in the village will be slaughtered, and quarantine will be established around the settlement.

The Bulgarian government has taken measures to prevent the entry of African swine fever into the country, including the establishment of a fence on the border with Romania to prevent the migration of wild boars.
