Inspectors of the Food and Veterinary Service of Latvia recorded 19 new cases of African swine fever (ASF) in a population of wild boars, reports UNN.

The ASF was identified in five wild boars in the Hibulskyi district of the Talsynskyi  region, two wild boars in the Irlavskyi district of the Tukumskyi region and one in 12 other distrcits.

Thus, 314 wild boars in 140 distrcits of the country were registered with the ASF virus in 2018.

It is noted that ASF in Latvia was first ascertained in June 2014, a few meters from the border with Belarus.

It bears reminding that Poland announced its intention to build a fence on the border with Ukraine and Belarus, in order to minimize the risks of spreading ASF.

In addition, Polish farmers demanded the resignation of their Minister of Agriculture for the failure of the struggle with ASF.

In Ukraine, meanwhile, the Minister of Agrarian Policy has been absent for almost a year now. Against this background, the spread of ASF in the country does not fall, and since the beginning of the year, more than 30 outbreaks have been recorded.
