Until 2026 the world expects a significant increase in consumption of livestock products, in particular meat. According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), poultry consumption in the global market will increase by 12%. In particular, the greatest increase in demand will be observed in African countries: Sudan, Nigeria and Ethiopia. The demand for beef will also increase by about 10%. Pork will be consumed 9% more, and dairy products - 20%.

"This is good news for our producers of beef and pork, head of the USBA Iryna Palamar commented. - As we can see, it is very profitable and promising to engage in livestock business with export orientation to African countries. Moreover, in 2017 the Government approved the so-called Export Strategy for 2017-2021, according to which the agroindustrial complex is defined as one of the promising sectors. It aims to open new markets and contains a concrete effective plan of tasks and activities for their implementation. I think that the African countries, where the demand for meat is growing, can become these new markets. The Ukrainian government is now actively working on establishing cooperation with the African continent.

As for our producers, they have already been ready to export and produce more products for sale abroad. They have all the possibilities to do this. And the quality and price of our meat is quite competitive.

Although there are a number of problems that the state must solve: high export duty, insufficiently equipped checkpoints in ports, insufficiency of halal slaughterhouses, bureaucratic obstacles, etc.

The situation with ASF remains a big problem for exports, which does not improve. Among the population of African countries, there are many who consume pork, and this continent could become a very good direction for our pig producers. Therefore, as I have noted earlier, the Government must adopt the proper legislation that will allow businesses to use the compartmentalization procedure, according to which the farms having a high level of biosecurity can be considered clean from ASF and will be able to export pork."
