Olena Sydorenko, doctor of technical sciences, told at the press conference that Ukraine was the leader in Europe for the import of palm oil, GolosUA reported.

According to her, producers are very profitable, because palm oil is cheap. Nevertheless, it is dangerous for the health of consumers, especially for children.

"If huge fines and bans on the use of palm oil in children's food are introduced, then there will be positive results," Olena Sydorenko said.

Currently, 80% of food in Ukraine contain confectionery fat. "It is in ice cream, sauce, ketchup, children's desserts and many other products," the expert added.

It should be noted that on April 4 the Law "On State Control over Compliance with Food Legislation, Feed, Animal by-products, Animal Health and Well-Being" came into force in Ukraine, which is designed to ensure food industry control according to European standards. However, the products containing palm oil will not disappear from the shelves of Ukrainian shops.

By the way, the bill No. 3871 on banning the use of palm oil by the food industry was registered in the parliament. However, more than a year ago it was returned for revision and the document is still pending.
