1263 cases of ASF in Poland and 53 cases in Ukraine have been recorded since the beginning of the year

ASF is actively spreading over the territories of Moldova, Hungary, Romania and the Czech Republic. However, Poland demonstrates the highest rate of distribution, AgroPerspectiva reported.

The last case of African swine fever was recorded in Hungary, which had already been subject to export restrictions. In particular, for Hungary, the major Asian markets are closed.

Moldova reported about the new outbreak of ASF in the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE). The outbreak is registered in a backyard farm located 2 km from the border with Ukraine.

In the Czech Republic, the number of detected foci of ASF increased to 221. As noted, the virus was detected in the southeast of the country in wild boars and did not affect domestic animals.

As of today, Romania has informed the OIE about four cases of ASF. All of them are identified in small households.

The worst situation is in Poland. Since the beginning of the year 1263 cases have been recorded (for the whole time 2145 cases among wild boars and 109 among domestic pigs). The most active growth of foci of ASF was noted in Mazowieckie voivodeship. The disease is also found in the Warmińsko-Mazurskie, Lubelskie and Podlaskie voivodships.

Two weeks earlier in Poland the consequences of the spread of ASF caused farmers' protests demanding compensation. In addition, they demanded to speed up the construction of a fence with the Kaliningrad region of the Russian Federation, which would prevent wild boars infected by ASF from entering Poland.

It bears reminding that at the end of last year the President of Poland Andrzej Duda signed a special law on combating the ASF, which, in particular, envisages the construction of a similar fence on the border with Belarus and Ukraine longer than 1,000 kilometers. The project is planned to be implemented in 2018-2021. In the first year of the fence operation the cost of its maintenance will be 190 million zloty (more than $ 54 million).

According to the information provided by the National Center for Veterinary Medicine "Veterinary prostate", 53 cases of ASF have been recorded in Ukraine since the beginning of the year (23 - domestic pigs, 25 - wild, 5 - infected objects). The last case (364th at the beginning of registration since July 2012) was registered on May 7, 2018 in the Kazatynskyi district of Vinnytsia region.
