The production of milk in Ukrainian farms decreased by 0.9%

According to the latest data of the State Statistics Service of Ukraine, in January-August of this year, milk production in farms of all categories amounted to 7.171 million tons, which is 0.9% less than in the same period last year.

In particular, 1.28 tons of milk of all kinds was produced on August, which is 47 thousand tons less than in July. That shows the traditional seasonal decline in milk production. In comparison with August of 2016, the volume practically did not change. It decreased by 3.9 thousand tons.

The share of industrially produced milk in the total structure was 26.4% or 1.895 tons. This is 1.3% more than in the period of January-August last year. In the households during this period 5,275 tons of milk were produced, which is 1.6% less than in the previous year. The main centers for production of industrial milk are Poltava region (290.2 thousand tons), Cherkasy region (205.2 thousand tons), Kharkiv region (165.4 thousand tons), Chernihiv region (162.9 thousand tons) and the Kiev region (150 7 thousand tons).

At the same time, the population of cows in Ukraine decreased by 2% and amounted to 2.131 million. Now Zhytomyr region is only increasing the livestock population –  + 4.8%, compared to the corresponding period of the previous year. In agricultural enterprises, 481.2 thousand cows are kept, which is 3.7% less than in 2016. The population at the same time holds 1.65 million animal units. This is 1.5% less than last year.

In addition, the sales of industrial milk in the first eight months of this year amounted to 1.7 million tons, which is 1.9 million tons more than last year. The average selling price of a ton of dairy raw materials was 6.9 thousand UAH / t (+ 38.3%).
