As of the beginning of the fourth quarter of 2017, there were fewer pigs in the Ukraine, industrial and household - minus 387 thousand (up to 3.43 million animal units) and 305 thousand animal units (up to 3.33 million), respectively. Thus, compared to the same period last year, the reduction was 9.3%.

This is reported by the SSSU.

Unlike the households, in a number of regions - in Kyiv, Rivne and Volyn - agricultural enterprises slightly increased the population of pigs, and in the Donetsk region the number of animals keeps at the level of the previous year. However, the loss of the industrial livestock of the Kharkiv, Poltava, Zaporizhzhia and Dnipropetrovsk regions - minus 266 thousand animal units (against the data, as of October 1, 2016), offset the positive effect of the increase in production capacity of these regions.

"Such changes are increasingly reflected in the performance of the industry: a 10% decrease in the volume of cultivation has been observed for more than a month, and by the results of 3 quarters of 2017, the weakening of sales for slaughter was 3% (compared to a year earlier).

The industry has not yet begun recovery, as evidenced by the fact that the percentage of sales for slaughter from the total volumes of live weight of pigs remains at 98%. It is expected that the supply of pork in the domestic market will continue to be more restrained than a year ago, " comment experts.
