According to the latest data of the State Statistics Service, in early November there were 6.7 million pigs in Ukraine. This is 0.65 million head or 8.9% less compared to a year earlier.

"Although the decline in livestock mainly affected the industrial sector, most pigs are concentrated in agricultural enterprises", - comment experts.

So, in comparison with November 2016 the number of industrial pigs decreased by 10% or 370 thousand units. Nevertheless, the number of animals in agricultural enterprises slightly exceeds their number in the household sector: 3.4 million head against 3.29 million head respectively.

It is noted that one of the important factors that contributes to reducing the number of pigs in the households of the population is the spread of ASF. In the ten months of 2017, 131 outbreaks of ASF were recorded in Ukraine, which is 44% more than a year ago. At the same time, most of them took place in the household sector.

Although the number of cases in agricultural enterprises is slightly higher than in the previous year (21 against 17, respectively), but this year the virus hit mainly small operators, bypassing the medium.
