Milk production in Ukraine decreased by 0.8%

According to the latest data of the State Statistics Service of Ukraine in January-October of this year, milk production in farms of all categories amounted to 8.96 million tons, which is 0.8% less than for the corresponding period last year.

In October, 851.9 thousand tons of milk of all kinds were produced, which is 84.9 thousand tons less than in September, this is shown by the traditional seasonal decline in milk production. Compared to October 2016, the volume remained practically unchanged and decreased by 3.1 thousand tons.

The share of industrially produced milk in the total structure was 26.1%, or 2.3 million tons. This is 1.8% more than in January-October last year. The households produced 6.6 million tons of milk over the period under review, which is 1.7% less than last year.

Most industrial milk was produced in Poltava (358.7 thousand tons), Cherkasy (253.8 thousand tons), Kharkiv (203 thousand tons), Chernihiv (201.3 thousand tons) and Kiev (188, 2 thousand tons) areas.
In addition, the number of cattle for the analyzed period decreased by 0.5% and amounted to 4.45 million livestock. Thus, 1.2 million (-4%) is in the industrial sector and 2.86 million in the households (+ 1.1%).

At the same time, the number of cows in Ukraine decreased by 1.9% and amounted to 2.1 million. In agricultural enterprises, 474.1 thousand head of cows are kept, which is 3.2% less than in 2016. The population at the same time keeps 1.6 million head. This is 1.5% less than last year.

Realization of industrial milk for three quarters of this year amounted to 2 million tons, which is 2.3% more than last year. The average selling price of a ton of dairy raw materials was 6.97 thousand UAH / t (+ 38.3%).

In addition, 24.2 thousand tons were processed at own facilities or on tolling basis.
Most milk was sold in Poltava (303.18 thousand tons), Cherkasy (214.5 thousand tons) and Kiev (193.9 thousand tons) areas.
