The government intends to allow the controlling bodies to conduct inspections of food companies that will help to improve the quality of Ukrainian food products.

This was reported by the Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Hroisman, writes UNIAN.

Today we will take a decision and give the right to the supervising authorities to check such facilities, especially where the children and the elderly people are. We do not want to fine anyone, but we have a goal to make everyone think about how to ensure a decent level of security. This will include issues of food security. We will also allow to check where there are food problems, so that Ukrainians are in good conditions and in the end receive safe food in the country, he has said.

Groisman added that the control of such facilities would be carried out in the interests of Ukrainian citizens to ensure the quality of Ukrainian food.

It bears reminding that in August 2014 the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine introduced a moratorium on inspections of all business entities, except for fiscal audits. Food quality control in Ukraine is carried out by the State Service of Ukraine for Food Safety and Consumer Protection, which was established on the basis of the liquidated State Agricultural Inspection, the State Veterinary and Phytosanitary Service, the State Inspectorate for Consumer Protection and the State Sanitary and Epidemiological Service. The central apparatus of the State Service of Ukraine for Food Safety and Consumer Protection officially began to perform its functions on April 6, 2016.
